Ranking the top 15 NPF players of the 2012 season to countdown to the Pro Fastpitch Playoffs
#2 Monica Abbott, Chicago Bandits, P
In a league that has been more dominated by good hitters, it can be hard to find a consistent ACE to lead a staff. But Monica Abbott is far from ordinary. In 15 starts this season, Abbott has gone the distance 14 times including 7 shutouts as well as appearing in 8 other relief outings. Her record of 14-3 gives her 5 more wins then any other pitcher. Fun Fact: Abbott’s 14 wins equals the total team wins for the Akron Racers this season. In her league leading 125.2 innings pitched this season, she only allows one walk per 4 innings while holding an unbelievable 13.6 K/7 IP. Her near unhuman ERA of 1.06 somehow still sits just 2nd best in the league. but nearly 1.5 points lower then any other pitcher.
Abbott was co-pitcher of the year last year for good reason. She carried the Chicago bandits all the way to the Cowles Cup while maintaining an ERA of 0.80 throughout the regular season. She has pitched a perfect game now in back to back years. I’ve seen many times, hitters step to the plate knowing fully what is coming at Abbott can still make batters swing and miss more often then not. She makes pitching look too easy while still bringing incredible heat.
